What We're Sharing at AAPS #PharmSci360: Meet our Speakers

We’re proud to see our experts taking the stage at AAPS PharmSci 360 this October 25-28. Through their research, Sara Fathollahi and Mark Wagner are helping advance the science behind next-generation therapies, highlighting the critical role of formulation and process design in overcoming development challenges. Here's a preview of their upcoming presentations:

Is continuous direct compression a practical and efficient alternative to dry granulation for low dose generics?

Continuous manufacturing is gaining momentum as pharmaceutical companies seek faster, efficient and more cost-effective ways to bring products to market. For high-value generics, continuous direct compression offers the potential to simplify production, shorten development time, improve efficiency and lower cost per tablet.

But success depends on more than adopting a new manufacturing approach. How do you determine whether a formulation is suitable for CDC? What role do excipients play in feeding performance, content uniformity, and tablet quality? And at what point does CDC become a practical alternative for challenging low-dose products?

Those are the questions that will be explored by Sara Fathollahi, Global Technical Lead for DFE Pharma, in her chalk talk presentation, "Designed to Flow: Excipient-Led Optimization of a Low-Dose Apixaban Formulation for Robust Continuous Direct Compression."

What’s next in delivery routes for peptides and similar size molecules?

Pulmonary delivery offers a promising non-invasive approach for peptide-based therapies, with the potential to improve patient compliance, adherence and overall treatment outcomes. However, manufacturing processes such as spray drying can potentially affect peptide stability and aerosol performance.

In the poster presentation "Development and In Vivo Evaluation of an Inhalable Spray-Dried Powder for Systemic Delivery of Semaglutide," Mark Wagner will explore how spray-drying affects peptide stability and aerosol performance, while also evaluating safety and invivo clinical performance of different drug concentrations.
